Lammas Letter 2021

Dear Friends,

Lammas is here and the field harvest has begun...shards of straw are in the gullies discarded as tractors and combine harvesters roar through the night to beat the storms...

Frenetic times to capture nature’s bounty at this special time and place...

Amidst all this I was recently reminded of how much small acts of kindness can have such a huge impact and be part of another harvest of the human heart.

A few days ago I took my six year old grandson to the local wildlife park to celebrate the school holidays and begin the journey back to wider social mixing and the enjoyment of weird and wonderful creatures...

Half way through the day I pulled back a heavy sliding door to enter the humid tropical house and a green flying insect seemed to appear from nowhere and immediately attached itself to my grandson’s arm and sting him. We exited amidst howls of painful shock to gulp fresher air amidst my attempts to comfort a very upset little boy. Out of nowhere, again, appeared the antithesis of what had happened a few minutes before...a mum, with two small boys in tow, and the words: ‘Oh dear...have you just been stung?...’ a loud affirmative sob confirmed her query...at which point she dived into her bag emerging with a sachet of patches to sooth insect bites. With my permission she gently placed a patch on the red bite and the sobs subsided. The angel accepted my thanks and then disappeared back into the throng.

A random act of kindness that made a huge difference to a young lad on a much looked forward to day out...a rich harvest indeed.

Beloved Weaver of the Universe and Mother of us All
May we post acts of kindness not only to those around us now but to those that are yet to come...
In the decisions and choices we make now may we hold the Future’s children in our hearts
So their harvest can be as full and rich as ours...
May we give worth to the wonder and miracles of nature we witness everyday
And serve our companions so all may enjoy these riches with Peace and Justice.

With blessings of a rich first harvest...
Cressida, FOI Steward.
