Noble Order of Tara
Founding and Managing a Priory

In order to found a Priory, a member is first consecrated Grand Dame/Knight Commander by meeting all the required guidelines. Once these are met, the member is sponsored and certified for her/his own center through the Priory where training was provided. This is obtained through courtesy and discussion with the Grand Dame/Knight Commanders of the training Priory. Only Founders of previously certified and registered Priories may sponsor a member for a new Priory. There are no “self-appointed” centers or appointments in the NOT or FOI.

See the sections below for specific guidelines to manage a Priory. See also these specific pages:

NOT Initiate System

Initiation into a FOI Priory:
Initiation into a NOT Priory as a Companion is given through the "Rite of Tara, Initiation into a NOT Priory" (PDF Version / HTML Version), either in person or through attunement. This ritual may also be found in the NOT Manual.

Creating a curriculum:
The dedicatory Goddess, or Goddess and God, manifest particular attributes of the Deities associated with the Priory. Therefore there is no set curriculum for the Noble Order of Tara. Grand Dame/Knight Commanders, through direct inspiration from their particular Priory Deity, produce their own original training program. This reflects the democratic character of the FOI and the Druid Clan of Dana. One linking factor between all Priory programs of study is that they are based on the NOT Priory Liturgy. This Liturgy was written by Olivia Robertson, FOI co-founder.

Acceptance of Initiations:
Once a program of study is complete, the student has an opportunity to attain an Initiation through enactment of a corresponding NOT Drama. Grand Dame/Knight Commanders confer Initiations in the manner that they accept the member's experience of Divine Awareness once received during the ritual. For full guidelines, please see the section Requirements for a Valid Degree.

Sponsoring & Registering a New Grand Dame/Knight Commander:
Only previously certified and registered Grand Dame/Knight Commanders may train and sponsor another member as a Grand Dame/Knight Commander. Once the requirements are met (a minimum of 4 Grades/12 Initiations achieved through appropriate course and ritual work), the new Grand Dame/Knight Commander is then consecrated through a ritual that the training Grand Dame/Knight Commander creates. It may be performed either in person or through attunement.

A NOT/FOI certificate is issued to the new Grand Dame/Knight Commander and the new appointment is registered with the FOI. (See the section on FOI Registration.) Only a Grand Dame/Knight Commander registered in this manner may go on to found a Priory and teach the NOT Initiate system.

Sponsoring & Registering a Priory:
Only previously certified and registered Priory Founders may sponsor a member for their own Priory. A NOT/FOI certificate is issued and the new Priory is then registered with the FOI.
